Backyard Bliss

We've lived in this house a whole YEAR now, and I still feel so, so thankful to have our own outside space for the kids to play.  It has been wonderful, especially during this summer.  Here are some of our favorite things to do in the backyard:
Eat messy foods like ice cream cones and popsicles.  Way less clean up for Mom!  The kids also love to have picnic lunches out there (especially since Daddy invented "picnic pouches") and we got a wooden picnic table so we can eat dinner out there sometimes, too.
Catch frogs!  Can you see the little frog in Kyle's hand?
More frog catching!

Play in the mud!  They have finally made their first mud pies. :)  The also love putting mud in their kiddie pool and turning it into a swamp.
Drawing with chalk or painting with sidewalk paint.  I found the recipe for sidewalk paint on pinterest (2 Tbsp cornstarch, 4 Tbsp water, and some drops of food coloring), and Kyle and Jack had a blast with it.
Growing tomatoes!  We haven't had to buy any tomatoes this summer, and the boys love picking them for me.  I can't wait to plant more stuff next spring!
It's so funny because every now and then, I'll overhear Kyle telling another little kid (someone we meet at the park or something) "Guess what?  We have a backyard."  And the kid is never too impressed, of course, because most other kids have a backyard, too.  But I love that he is still so excited about it. :)  And obviously, so am I!
