Just Because

I took these pictures of Jack the other day and had to post them just because they're cute. And they show some of his fun personality.

Our little Jack is definitely acting like a 2 year-old.  He doesn't have terrible tantrums or fits or anything, but he is feeling more independent these days and trying to exercise that independence.  For example, he used to be a perfect sleeper.  He went to bed willingly every night and would stay in bed later than his brothers in the morning (7:30 most mornings).  Lately, he has decided he doesn't want to go to bed when he's supposed to.  He will wander out of his room saying things like, "Bedtime's not fair." or "It's wake up time, Mommy!  Don't put me back in my bed!"  or "I want my light on" or our favorite, "I pooped!" He has also started wandering out sometimes in the middle of the night or way too early in the morning.  So Rob and I just keep putting him back in his bed over and over and over ... hoping our persistence pays off and he gets over this phase soon.

 Other signs that he is 2:  he has developed some strong opinions.  He has started to care about what he wears.  If it were up to him, he would live in his Toy Story pajamas, and he would never, ever have to wear a sweatshirt.  For some reason the kid hates sweatshirts and coats.  So I often have to battle him to get him dressed in the morning. When he doesn't want to do something his trademark phrase is, "No, I don't!"  We hear that a lot.  But even though the 2s come with a few challenges, it is such a cute, fun stage that it's totally worth it!  Every day he amazes me with funny things he will say.  Yesterday I was teasing him and asked him if he was a turtle because he was holding his head funny and making a face that reminded me of a turtle.  He answered, "No Mommy, I'm not a turtle, I have eyebrows!"  Recently I reminded him that there is a baby in my tummy and he said excitedly, "Can I open it?  Can I take it out?"  and lifted up my shirt, trying to get to the baby. :)  Some of our favorite things he says are "probwee" (probably) in funny contexts like "I probwee need my Woody toy." and "Boom shocka wocka" when he gives a high five. 

And another favorite: when he is asking for something, he always says "Can I want it?" with this face. Yep, it's pretty hard to resist!
